Wordfast Anywhere - worth a try? Autor wątku: Vincent Lemma

Hi all,
Am going to start work on a rather large project and the client has requested Wordfast.
I am not thinking about purchasing it as I use SDL Studio for my work, along with Transit.
I was thinking of doing the project with Workbench Trados 2007, given that it is compatible
with Wordfast, but I came across the Wordfast Anywhere option.

ask myself what's the catch. Why buy Wordfast when I can just work online.
Anyways, does anyone have experience here?
Thanks so much

Dear Vincent,
It is important to know which Wordfast you are required to use.
If it is Wordfast Classic, yes, you can use Trados 2007 instead to deliver bilingual RTF files.

Yes, Wordfast Anywhere is definitely worth trying. Try and see if it suits your needs. | | | NataliaAnne Brazylia Local time: 07:33 portugalski > angielski Free CAT tool that works – why not use it? | Jun 22, 2012 |
I keep asking myself the same question – I’ve been using Wordfast Anywhere for over 6 months without any problems. People do raise the question of what happens if your Internet connection drops out but it saves the last segment you had open. In fact, Wordfast Anywhere recently saved me when my computer suddenly and inexplicably died, meaning that I didn’t lose any work. After all, I believe the conventional CAT tool was free in its early days too. ▲ Collapse | |

As Yasmin points out, I think you really need to know *why* the customer is requesting Wordfast for this particular project, what type of file are they expecting as a deliverable?

My understanding is that Wordfast Anywhere will remain free in its current form. However, there may be a premium version at a later stage, that will include new features not found in the current version. | | | Alternative solutions for TXML | Jun 22, 2012 |

I assume your project will be in the TXML format. This is the format of Wordfast Pro, which can also be read and translated with Wordfast Anywhere. If so, you have other options, exporting the untranslated TXML to a bilingual review as described here:
http://wordfast.fi/blog/cat-tools/2012/03/04/translate-any-format-in-wordfast-classic-with-wordfast-pro-3/
In that example, the translation takes place in Wordfast Classic, but you can easily adopt that method to any tool that can translate a Word document containing tags formatted with the tw4winInternal style. | | | Samuel Murray Holandia Local time: 11:33 Członek ProZ.com od 2006 angielski > afrikaans + ...

You obviously know more than we do, but it would make sense to me that the commercial WFA would not contain any features that were not tested to death in the free version, unless you have a large pool of volunteer beta testers. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Wordfast Anywhere - worth a try?
