What is your exact problem? Wordfast doesn't segment the way you'd expect it to? What is the format of your original source document? Do you expect to see paragraph marks in the TXML editor, like the ones you see in Word?

My original source document has paragraph indents and is nicely divided in paras... The TXML just runs straight on in a block of solid text with no indentation and no separation of paras.

If you want to see your translation in its original context, complete with original layout, then you should be using Wordfast Classic, not Pro.
Wordfast Pro doesn't purport to display your original document in a WYSIWYG manner in its TXML editor. And TXML files are not meant to be opened in MS Word.
If you want to see your translation in a WYSIWYG manner, use the preview function. Or use File > Save translated file (you can do so in the middle of a translation).
If you want real-time preview during translation, give memoQ a try.

... but I am using the preview button and it is that which is giving me the layout described.
Sorry, the way I work is that I use the preview and then cut and paste the text from that to build up my finished translation text. The preview usually reproduces exactly the layout of the source text, that does not seem to be happening now.

Well, from your answer to Dominique I understand that you're not opening the TXML file in MS Word, but that you're using Window > Show View > Preview in MS Word feature from within Wordfast Pro itself. That preview does not show what the final file will look like, but generates a table for you with one segment per cell, so that you can check the text formatting of each segment.

She copied the paragraphs one after the other to the original file in Word and in this way obtained a target file, directly in Word.
Maria, if this is what you are doing, you are complicating very much, just work in the editor and then save the file in the original format (Save translated file). As Dominique says, you can do that halfway.

The way I choose to work (and it is a choice) is not an issue here...
My previous query stands...
Further developments, I pressed the preview button and did not get the preview text... Pressed again and WF crashed. Thankfully what I had worked on so far was saved.
Now when I press the preview button the text is appropriately paragraphed. So problem solved but it may be of interest that the programme had to crash in order to move on to that.

To Preview in MS Word, you need to have the original Source File (Doc file in your case) in the same folder as TXML file.
If you don't have the Source file then you would get tables like in WFPro.
