I'm using WFP to translate a series of "idml.sdlxliff" files from Italian to English. Some of the source segments, instead of wrapping, are broken into a number of lines as if by a CR and when I view the whitespace characters, I see at the end of these lines a small grey circle. If I insert the source segment into the target segment (Alt Insert), these circles appear as grey "CR" characters. So far so good (I think!).

But I need to be able to reproduce these line breaks individually in the target text to break the line in the right place in the target segment in English. Copying "converts" the line break into a normal space. Any ideas what I can do? Many thanks, Sarah.

Workaround Oct 13, 2014

I have no idea what the "grey CR characters" are, but chances are they are not supported by Wordfast Pro's TXML editor and you won't be able to insert them in the target column. As a workaround, you could use some random character (eg. #, ¥ etc.) in your translation. Once your translation is complete and you have saved the translated .idml.sdlxliff file, you can open it in a text editor and use find/replace to replace the random character with the one expected in the .sdlxliff. You may have to use a better text editor than the standard one (Notepad) included in Windows.Collapse

Check beforehand Oct 13, 2014

What you may want to do is check beforehand the grey CR characters are searchable/replaceable in the original SDLXLIFF, when that file is opened in a text editor. You could use Notepad++ as the text editor. If that editor isn't able to display said characters and/or find/replace them, then someone may suggest alternative editors.
