: politics is "polityka"; "politologia" is the science dealing with politics; pol. sci. are OK// in the 2nd bullet I understand "study" as "one government studying another"; the M-W definition is a figure of speech; otherwise "politics" is a broad term

na upartego można by wręcz uznać, że "nauki polityczne" (jako specjalizacja w ramach politologii) to "political theory" (por. http://www.bbk.ac.uk/study/pg/politics/politstmsc.html), a więc "nauki polityczne" jako specjalność studiów sugerują węższy zakres niż "politologia", a jako nazwa wydziału - szerszy (jak np. nauki o Ziemi sugerują szerszy zakres niż geologia czy geografia, a nauki o życiu niż biologia i medycyna). To jeszcze bardziej mnie utwierdza w przekonaniu, że nie ma co silić się na dokładne odzwierciedlanie tych słów w tłumaczeniu.
