Hello everyone!
I'm a recently graduated EN-ES translator. I have little experience. Could you give me some recommendations to enter the job market? What translation agencies would you recommend to get experience? If you help me with this, I would be very pleased.

Hello Itati,
IMO, you should 1/ make yourself desirable to potential clients (so, work on your profile–yours is fine, but far too short), and 2/ target clients (including agencies) that can be long-term partners, not simply make you "gain experience" (the low-price agencies will force you into unhealthy and low-quality work practices).

Regarding agencies to target, Proz's Blue Board might be a good start: https://www.proz.com/blueboard
However, a very good mark often simply means that the agency pays its translators, not necessarily that they are a quality agency.
If you are looking to gain experience, why not do some pro bono work?
Proz has such a program: https://www.prozprobono.world/
I can also recomment Translators without Borders: https://twbplatform.org/
Best of luck

Besides the advice you have already gotten here, one of the best ways for gaining work experience in translation and learning the ropes is through an internship in a translation agency. Research how many translation agencies there are in your city/area and try finding a job as an in-house junior translator (some are paid)…

A few things that most good agencies have in common, in my experience:
* Agreeable, non-officious, personal tone in e-mails.
* Succinct communication except when needed (then they may go into great detail).
* Fast replies.
* Will usually notify when prospective clients cancel jobs.
* Pay punctually, often earlier than expected.
* Will expect you to go the extra mile (and will readily do so themselves, for instance if scheduling problems occur).

* Will read your deliveries carefully, and often come back with queries (sometimes time-consuming, usually relevant and instructive).
* Ask you to do work for the same client repeatedly (because the client likes your translation, and they keep track of this).
* Some pay well, none pay badly.
(This might be the definition of "good", but for some reason these attributes usually go together.) ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Translation Agencies recommended?
