我发现你是位“考古”专家。;) 记得Chance说过，不管什么题目，你总能找到相关的链接（大意），我也颇有同感。看来，不少人把“鍍鉻"念成"du-luo"也是情有可原。当然，现在除了以铬字表示金属鉻，将它用于其它场合的情况好像很罕见。
据我所知，把 "臀部" 的 "臀" 念成 "殿"的人，也不在少数。还有很多人把“分娩”念成"fēn-wǎn” ，曾经把我搞糊涂了，后来查了词典才肯定正确的念法是"fēn-miǎn”。当然，“娩”字在其它场合确实可以念作wǎn，意为gentle, pretty and slow，还可作为surname用。中国字一字多义多音的还很多。所以，正如David和你所说，注意用词的搭配、场合非常重要。这个讨论题确实很有意义。

在台灣，我們說「有邊讀邊，無邊讀中間」，所以啦，什麼奇奇怪怪的讀音都有，跟日文的漢字讀音一樣多元化。
我自己年輕時，遇到沒看過的字，又懶得查字典找讀音，看懂意思就好，隨便謅著讀音給它們，所以「腳踝」就變成了 jiao-ke，四年前才被訓了一頓，改正過來。
聽說在某些拼音文字的國度裡，小孩如果有拼音的問題，他們就會讓他學習中文，說是用那個方法治療 misspelling 很有效。我記不得在哪裡讀到的，其中的奧妙也不太記得。好像說是，因為字形和讀音的差異會讓小孩更仔細些。天曉得是不是這樣。
這年頭，喝水都會嗆到，吃飯都會噎到，說話怎會有不發錯音的道理？

言归正传, 我觉得基本的词汇读音是应该力求准确的, 与偏僻的字眼并不一样.

Thank you for the warm greeting. It was my fault to have you missed chance. But now I promise you, I won't let her go again. She stays and I stay. Promise.
About the pronunciation matter, you see, sometimes we just don't take it too serious. I am never so sure about what is basic and what is not. For me, all languages were foreign languages and I misspell a lot and mispronounce a lot. Thank God that there are so many people who are ready to correct my errors in writing or speaking!
Again, many thanks for your ever kindness to me. Take good care at IBM till your sooner retirement!

P.S. Half a year after I came back to Taiwan in 2000, I took care of a bunch of graduates who wanted to learn more about foreign countries. They asked me what a profession I had, I told them that I was retired --- I had been tired and then retired.
