Hi guys
I was a Windows user for a long time but recently I decided to migrate to Linux. But I use Trados for my translation work and I get used to it. on the other side I tried some linux translation software such as Omega T, and I don't liked it. recently I have used Heartsome in Linux and It is great. but unfortunately the developer stop their support on HeartSome.
so please share your experience about Linux translation software. which one do you use? | | | Michael Beijer Wielka Brytania Local time: 02:53 Członek ProZ.com niderlandzki > angielski + ...
Hi Kamelan,
Although I have never used a CAT tool on Linux, I do know that my current favourite tool, CafeTran, runs on Linux. It also runs on OS X and Windows. This is because it's a Java app.
I'm slightly biased because I am involved in the help website and very active in the mailing lists, but as far as I know it is currently the best CAT tool available.

Hello,
I am a CafeTran user too (though on OS X). Recently I've read a complaint of a colleague who had been using Linux for many years. At that time he was losing clients because of missing compatibility with Ms Word on Linux.
So my question to you would be: How do you handle Ms Word documents with complex formatting on Linux? If at all.
Thanks,

There’s no (big) problem with handling M$ Word documents under Linux. First of all, current versions of Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice show quite a good level of compatibility (comparable with compatibility among various versions of Word actually). Second, you can install and run M$ Office (at least up to 2007) via Crossover Linux (or, as reported, via bare wine, with a bit more tinkering).
BTW, Microsoft is rumored to release a Linux build of Office soon. Well, in such a case ... See more There’s no (big) problem with handling M$ Word documents under Linux. BTW, Microsoft is rumored to release a Linux build of Office soon. Well, in such a case the issue of compatibility will be gone unless they stick to their practice of deliberately compromising compatibility by quietly changing file format specs.

I think OmegaT does work on Linux distros! Give it a try.
