Well, I guess I would have a script that, once started, did something like the following pseudocode.
Set up: check/open files for writing content, and log files for debugging
Authenticate: sign in to portal using credentials stored on local system (not in the script - bad practice)
Main loop - go through a sequence of actions repeating every (say) 10 seconds:
- Scrape: extract content of portal (which may not be trivial to achieve, if they use lots of javascript, which is likely)
- Clean up: process the content to extract a list of jobs, if any
- Compare: compare new list of jobs to old list of jobs
- IF new job is identified as having been posted:
--- Break down job entry into multiple fields such as volume, delivery date
--- Check fields against conditions set in advance by the translator (e.g. "no more than 2000 words")
--- IF job meets conditions:
------ Activate the "Accept" button or whatever
------ Save job in "jobs accepted" file
------ Message/notify the translator somehow, perhaps by sending an email
--- Save list of jobs, if any
- Repeat
This approach would be quite rude, as it would impose an ongoing burden on the server, and some sites may specifically ban this kind of automated access for that reason. Testing would also be quite difficult and mistakes could have serious repercussions. Suppose the script accidentally accepts on your behalf a job of 10000 words for delivery tomorrow morning?
Basically, serious people wouldn't do this because of the potential for causing considerable damage to the relationship with the client. On the other hand, the kind of client who gives out jobs like this may not be a particularly important one? Hard to say. I have no experience in that area.
