Hi guys,
I'm pretty new to this field, so I'd like to expand my knowledge as much as I can (particularly about how to develop skills or business).
If anyone has any recommendations to good learning material that they could share here, I'm sure that us newbies would all really appreciate it.
Any books / podcasts / youtubers.

A podcast that comes to mind is one called Speaking of Translation by Eve Bodeaux and Corinne Mckay (you can find them in apple).
Have to go through my library to come up with more recommendations and get back to you.
Hope it helps at least a bit. | | | Philippe Etienne Hiszpania Local time: 16:42 Członek ProZ.com angielski > francuski
I was looking for things about grinding for translation work and was "side-tracked" to a YouTube video about manually sharpening chainsaw chains by a professional FR trainer. It was well presented (in the woods), very educational and with plenty of terms around the different bits in the chain, the chainsaw, maintenance, etc., so I watched the full 12 minutes of it!
I haven't worked in forestry content yet, but you never know. And I own a chainsaw.

Just to say that deepening one's knowledge, beyond translation techniques, about subjects you're interested in, or only curious about, is also a pleasant way to perfect your skills as a translator. And eventually to make a difference.
With the right internet search skills, you end up wondering what is NOT on the web. When you know a foreign language and how to write properly in your own, searching the internet skilfully (ie filtering out the deafening noise out there) is the ultimate first top-of-the-list number one priority for a translator.

Hello,
I would recommend everything from Gary Vaynerchuk. Youtube videos, podcasts, books etc. It isn't really connected to translation, but it is helpful to everyone who wants to start their business in ANY filed. And it is helpful a lot. The cool thing is that you can reach out to Gary during his podcasts or through social media (FB, Instagram, Snapchat etc.). He is ready to help. So, I am sure you will find anything you need in his content. Good luck! | | | Reuben Allen Wielka Brytania Local time: 15:42 hiszpański > angielski NOWY TEMAT I have subscribed to him. | Apr 1, 2020 |

Hi guys,
I would recommend Youtube channel: Freelance Translator Tips. I subscribes it and find it quite fun and useful. The videos are short and updated very often. You can also get some tips from freelancers there.

For the lusoparlant people among us I recommend:
PERROTTI-GARCIA, A.J. - Como ingressar no mercado de tradução. Ed. Transitiva.
COMPAN, L.R. - Tradutor iniciante.
Ana Júlia Perrotti-Garcia is an überfamous odontomedical translator, corpus specialist, events organiser, audiodescriptor and author. Laila Compan has a very interesting blog too, for those who read and understand Portuguese. | |
