Infrared Dryer
Generally, one infrared (IR) dryer is used for one printing station; however, not every printing station may be equipped with a dryer. Each supplied dryer houses the short-wave infrared heating lamps and a control enclosure. Each dryer is connected to an air system and the main electrical controls.
At the top of the dryer, air is forced to flow under pressure through a series of slotted holes. This air flows past the heating lamps and against the printed side of the product. The heat radiating to the product changes the moisture in the ink to vapor, and the air removes the vapor from the printed surface.
An Interstation Flexo Dryer (IFD) is used between successive ink applications to dry the ink so that the succeeding ink application can be applied successfully.
A Final Flexo Dryer (FFD) is used at the end of the press to completely dry ink or coating before the product is die cut.
