Also, to co-ordinate and manage the interface of train movements with planned possessions and note the management of safety for a worksite is the responsibility of the Principle Contractor as designated by the CDM Regulations and attributed by contract from the Employer"

On completion the trainee will be able to carry out the duties of a Person in Charge of Possession (PICOP) in a safe and effective manner in line with the relevant Sections of the Railtrack Rulebook GO/RT 3000 Series.

A person certificated as competent and appointed to:
(a) establish, maintain and give up a possession of a line or lines;
(b) authorise the movement of trains over sections of line or lines identified as
being under the control of the PICOP;

A system for protecting work to be carried out on railway infrastructure, which is
at risk from, or a hazard to, the normal passage of trains. It requires:
(a) the suspension of the normal operation of trains over a section of line or
lines, and
(b) transfer of control of that section of line or lines from the signaller to the
PICOP.
