Steve,
Honey, I am coming to get you!”

Wenjer,
This is the first I heard that Lei Feng's story was fictitious. If true, it must have been a development after I left Mainland, China.
There were plenty heroic figures in that period though: | | |

Steve,
I think Wenjer must be joking, or he didn't know about Lei Feng at all. I think that's perfectly OK. As Lei Feng is largely a mainland figure (although I seem to remember that some US military university [WP?] also talked about Lei Feng).

Steve,
You are in the States. You are able to access to any website in Taiwan. Try google with the said name and "神话", then you will understand what I try to explain above. And by the way, "How Real Is Real?" by Paul Watzlawick is a nice book for seeing through those tricks.

Lei Feng was one of the heroic figures whose story I thought most people here at least were familiar with. Whether some of his stories were exaggerated I don't know. But my recollection they were mostly very small everyday things, like helping an old lady across the street, visiting injured workers in the hospital, etc.
Anyway, like Yueyin mentioned, stories of self-sacrifice and people helping people abound. I think there's a thread in this forum that many of us keep coming back to. Warren Buffett giving away his billions, for example, was discussed at length at one time, although mostly from a language standpoint.
Other well-known humanitarians I can think of off the top of my head are Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, Jimmy Carter...
Even among us, there are those who have financially supported poor kids in getting an education, which I think should be commended. ▲ Collapse | | | wherestip USA Local time: 18:50 chiński > angielski + ... Helping Others | Mar 27, 2007 |

Song: Beyond the Sea Lyrics
Somewhere beyond the sea,
Somewhere, waiting for me,
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailing;
Somewhere beyond the sea,
He's (She's) there watching for me.
If I could fly like birds on high,
Then straight to his (her) arms I'd go sailing.
It's far beyond a star,
It's near beyond the moon,
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon.
We'll meet beyond the shore,
We'll kiss just as before.
Happy we'll be beyond the sea,
And never again I'll go sailing!

English lyrics by albert a. beach
French lyrics and music by charles l. trenet
Goodbye, no use leading with our chins
This is where our story ends
Never lovers, ever friends
Goodbye, let our hearts call it a day
But before you walk away
I sincerely want to say
I wish you bluebirds in the spring
To give your heart a song to sing
And then a kiss, but more than this
I wish you love
And in july a lemonade
To cool you in some leafy glade
I wish you health
But more than wealth
I wish you love
My breaking heart and I agree
That you and I could never be
So with my best
My very best
I set you free
I wish you shelter from the storm
A cozy fire to keep you warm
But most of all when snowflakes fall
I wish you love
But most of all when snowflakes fall
I wish you love
I wish you love
I wish you love, love, love, love, love
I wish you love

L'AMOUR EST BLEU
Album : Why Say Goodbye

Michèle Torr (France)
Vicky Leandros

Blue, blue, my world is blue
Blue is my world now I'm without you
Gray, gray, my life is gray
Cold is my heart since you went away
Red, red, my eyes are red
Crying for you alone in my bed
Green, green, my jealous heart
I doubted you and now we're apart
When we met how the bright sun shone
Then love died, now the rainbow is gone
(Instrumental Break)
Black, black, the nights I've known
Longing for you so lost and alone
